I think you made a Grade A Good Shit AU in the tags

Ahaha I am ABSOLUTELY going to write an AU based on my workplace someday, because too many things are too hard to pass up. I mean. Big bookstore AU.

  • Haruka working in the kids’ dept. Her saving grace is that she is SO GOOD with kids and does an AMAZING job with story time and that overrides her tendency to get short with the rude parents/nannies
  • Usagi working in the cafe SHOULD be a disaster but somehow isn’t, she does alright and is happy to be around the smell of baked goods all day
  • Mako REFUSES to work in the cafe, IT’S ALL SO FAKE AND BAD AND NO. She ends up where we have the cookbooks and gardening books, and is the absolute queen of shelving. (She could NOT work in children’s, because while like Haruka she’s good with kids, she’s far more likely to actually fight it out with anyone who doesn’t treat their child right)
  • Michiru gets a job at the main info desk to prove she doesn’t need anything her parents gave her. Michiru has to deal with customers. It’s beautiful
  • Mina either doesn’t work there or she has my job as event staff, because oh boy can she work a crowd
  • Seiya is an asshole customer who makes eye contact with Haruka as she leaves a book where it very obviously does not go
  • Yaten works at main info with Michiru, but they have perfected the art of giving no fucks. Also the art of saying rude things to customers in a way that customers only sometimes notice.
  • Taiki keeps trying to push her favorite poetry books on people. She arranges a table of them so nicely and points customers there. No one buys any of them. She keeps trying.
  • Meanwhile Ami puts together genre tables that sell GREAT. She never mentions it to Taiki. Taiki never mentions it to her. But they both know it is a competition and she is winning.
  • Sets is a head cashier (not quite management, but almost) who is always pleasant but a little melancholy. She is here while she gets her Master’s degree. Possibly she stays after she gets her Master’s degree.

I CAN’T BELIEVE I FORGOT REI IN THIS

  • Rei gets put with the tablets/e-readers
  • Rei is actually kind of a technophobe
  • But during her interview she demonstrated she knew “have you turned it off and on again?” and BAM hired
  • She actually works GREAT for the main demographic that buys bookstore brand tablets/e-readers– old people (Usagi and Mina agree this is because Rei is an old lady herself)– except when old people  (mostly old white men) show their prejudices AND THEN IT IS A BAD TIME.
  • Also the security team has to be on high alert and catch people trying to watch p*rn on the tablets before she does, because she is incapable of following protocol and getting a guard and a manager instead of confronting them herself
  • Rei absolutely spends the first half hour of every shift downloading feminist books onto all the demo devices.
