So questions to the iCarly fandom:
1) How old were the characters when they started iCarly? Including Spencer?
2) How old were Sam and Carly when they met? And were they friends before Carly moved in with Spencer? How old was Carly exactly when she did move in with Spencer?
3) How old are they are the end of the series? Still high school, so I’m guessing 16 or 17?
I know I can look up these answers myself, but I figure the people on tumblr will probably be able to give me a more detailed analysis and explanation than most sites.
In theory, the trio is 13/14 at the beginning of the series. They’re in eighth grade so they should be 13/14 depending on birthdays. Sam might be a year older than Carly and Freddie depending on how canon you consider that comment Freddie made about her repeating the third grade in those little talk things on the first iCarly soundtrack. Spencer’s 26, that was outright said in the pilot.
Carly and Sam met five years before iDon’t Want to Fight. So they were 8/9 when they met. I don’t think they ever mention when Carly started living with Spencer though.
The ages got a little weirder as the show went on because the timeline kind of breaks down.
iGot Detention takes place nearly one year after iPilot (50 webshows = 50 weeks = Almost one year) so they’re in ninth grade in that one. So they’d be 14/15.
Carly mentions that they’re ninth grade girls in iKiss so they’d still be 14/15.
Sam’s birthday is in iMake Sam Girlier. If you take their birthdays from iCarly.com, Sam’s birthday is the last one so everyone’s 15 by this point, Sam is 16 if you take her repeating third grade to be canon. I know Carly’s birthday is July 24 now, but apparently it used to be some time in January. It honestly doesn’t make sense for it to be in July though… Because she went to school on her birthday in iGot a Hot Room. But like I said, the timeline seriously broke down at some point because iBeat the Heat obviously took place during the summer and it’s the episode before iGot a Hot Room so there’s a 5 to 7 month gap there if you consider Carly’s birthday to be in January.
Carly mentions that she’s 15 in iFind Lewbert’s Lost Love. So that would logically make her birthday in iGot a Hot Room her 16th one.
After that I’m not sure if there are any specific mentions of a time frame until iHalfoween which has to be at the end of April. A LOT happens between iGot a Hot Room and iHalfoween. And in iToe Fat Cakes Carly mentions it’s been four months since she kissed a guy and the last guy we know she kissed was Kyle in iQ. So they’re most likely 17/18 in iHalfoween. (The 18 is if you consider Sam to be one year older than Carly and Freddie.) Especially if you consider Carly’s birthday to be in January.
Oops, here’s something that could throw a wrench in things though. There’s a year between iPsycho and iStart a Fan War. Let’s see, iPsycho is before iBeat the Heat so let’s randomly put it as being in June and everyone’s still 15 or possibly 16 in Sam’s case. Then we have iBeat the Heat that could possibly be in July or August or even later in June. I dunno, when’s it hottest in Seattle? Then we jump to January for Carly’s birthday making her 16 while Freddie’s still 15 and Sam would be either 15 or 16. Then five episodes later and it’s June again and Carly and Freddie are 16 and Sam’s 16 or 17 all things depending.
EDIT: WAIT NO. Carly had homework in iBeat the Heat. So I guess it takes place in the last few weeks of the school year. What I said about it still stands though.
Ehhhhh, the problem here is iOMG. They’re doing a big project and I always assumed it took place in May or something. Somewhere near the end of the school year. Although I supposed we could just push Webicon back to April or something and everything would be good. So yes, let’s do that.
So let’s see. The trio is 16 (maybe 17 for Sam) in iStart a Fan War which should be during the last few months of school. So they’d be in tenth grade. So they’d be 17 (maybe 18 for Sam) and in eleventh grade in iHalfoween and still be that age in iGoodbye. The timeline’s not very pretty, but I think this works.
By the way, before I wrote all this out my rough outline for their ages has always been
Season 1: 13
Season 2: 14
Season 3: 15
Season 4+5: 16/17
Season 6: 18I think airing dates messed up my perception of the last few seasons.

ETA 2: Sker’ret and Filif is sort of broTP for get-discounted-tea purposes, as Ponch and Peach are paired as “wizardly pets who are secretly Powers” for discounted-tea purposes
