The second dream sequence is my favorite. On the one hand, it feels like a real dream. She starts off AS the princess (the perspective is notably different from the first dream), but then V appears and she is V while seeing V, and then it’s the video game she played earlier. I appreciate the realism.

But. There’s also a lot this implies story-wise.

Endymion has his sword out. This is during the war, probably actually right before they die. They’re running away from something Usagi’s dream represents with a dinosaur.

And then V cuts in.

There are two things I take from that. 1) Endymion has taken Serenity away from her guardians. They’re probably fighting, of course, and so away from the battle means away from them and that would seem like the safest choice. Heck, Venus or one of the others might have told Serenity to get away. But the point remains, Serenity is without her guardians and when danger strikes, she wants them there. I don’t think Usagi/Serenity wants to remember what really did come next, and V keeps that from happening. If Venus or anyone else had been there, it wouldn’t have happened the way it did.

2) Usagi/Serenity *becomes* V in her dream. Through the video game, she can fight the monster. She can save herself.

And then she wakes up and becomes a soldier for real.

This time, she will save herself.

So there are a LOT of things I really love about the SilMil dream sequences. They’re beautiful and romantic and *rambles ane cries forever*

BUT. I think storywise their existance does a lot.

First, how cute is it that Usagi admires herself? I really love the message there. See that beautiful beautiful princess? THAT’S YOU. That’s always been the case in Sailor Moon, even clumsy crybaby Usagi could ALWAYS be the princess, but I just feel a certain way about her explicitly thinking this.

I also love that it puts the possibility of remembering in early. She’s not an entirely random girl who has a past life thrust upon her; when she finds out it won’t be a complete shock. There’s residue from her past life. Learning about it will make everything make sense for Usagi.

I’m strangely excited to find out just how Serentiy died in this version, because that will put the dream in a different light depending. If she killed herself over Endymion, these will get a lot sadder, because even with all that tragedy she still managed to project these moments of happiness to her next life.

THESE TWO AND THEIR ANTAGONISTIC FIRST MEETINGS.

But I really liked how this played out. It’s mostly very manga, but they added in the little oh-no-he’s-hot moment, which I never knew I needed.
And then she’s all “my heart’s pounding… WAIT NO I AM PISSED. HE’S SUCH A WEIRDO IN THE TUX, GOD.”

There’s just so much to love right here.
