I’m mildly distressed by how attractive I find Crystal Mamoru. I was never attracted to Mamoru before but he’s so romantic and also dorky and hot damn I don’t know how to deal with this.
HEARTS IN MY EYES.
Even though this is pretty close to what happens in the manga, Crystal plays up a side to it that Crystal plays up quite a bit and I really really love it– this is a girl’s fantasy.
You’re alone and even though you feel beautiful you’re sad, so the person you’ve been dreaming of comes and asks you to dance. It’s entirely perfect. It’s entirely what most girls (and women!) would wish for.
Crystal I think is always aiming for this sort of fantasy, and while I don’t think it always comes through I love that this is the driving idea. It’s a story for women, and it does all it can to make it a story we want to be a part of.
Things that are hilarious to me:
- Rei said she didn’t think Usagi should go to the party because she had a bad feeling. But here she is, going to the party with Usagi.
- Ami and Rei don’t have disguise pens, and the dialogue suggests they didn’t use Usagi’s. That means they had those tiaras. Or else went and bought them just for this.
- Usagi looks so demur and graceful in this cap, and nearly the whole time she’s in this disguise. She believes so much in the power of a costume.
So he can get the hot dad of the year award.
