I LOVE that they’re playing up how much Rei loves kids. I can’t remember if that’s in the manga, but it was definitely in PGSM.

I see Rei as someone who doesn’t really want kids of her own, but she’s great with kids because she identifies with them (especially kids with family problems).

I think it’s cool, too, how Crystal’s choosing to show the break between people’s perceptions of who the senshi are and who they really are. Ami seems aloof and cold, but throw a cat at her and her exterior falls away. Rei can be intense and a little creepy, but she loves kids.

I’M JUST MAKING FLAILING GESTURES AT THE SCREEN NOW

This isn’t even a fake-out or a false excuse or anything!  This is 100% exactly why she did it, Usagi got off at this stop because Rei was so pretty that Usagi wanted to see her some more.

And there is the connection between their past lives, there’s a tug here that’s special because of Usagi’s connection with all her Sailor Senshi, but the thing that strikes me so hard is that USAGI DOESN’T FIND THIS ODD OF HERSELF AT ALL.

There’s no, “I’m not sure why I feel like this, I just… have to see her….” There’s no sense of it being odd or strange to her that she wants to go see a pretty girl, it never seems to register with her as out of the ordinary, it’s just completely how she is, how she usually is.

AND SO I’M JUST FLAILING OVER HOW IT’S NOT EVEN JUST IMPLIED OR ANYTHING, THEY OUTRIGHT STATE IT AND IT’S TRUE.  SHE FOLLOWED A PRETTY GIRL BECAUSE THE GIRL WAS PRETTY AND SHE WANTED TO GET TO KNOW HER BETTER.

SAILOR MOON DOES NOT FUCK AROUND WHEN IT COMES TO BISEXUAL USAGI!!!!

This wording is going to haunt me.

This is what awakens Mars. I’m inclined to think it’s an echo of words she said before.

So the anymore kills me.

This calls to a Mars who saw Serenity (and maybe the other guardians) hurt.

The moments before she transforms, Rei’s face is rage. She goes past determination and past simple anger. She feels the rage Mars felt at seeing her princess hurt.

Rei doesn’t consciously remember the Silver Millenium yet, but the emotion is there.
