All the things Mako DOESN’T say here, stab me in the heart

She knows exactly how long it’s been since her mom made her lunch, to the month if not the day. She doesn’t remember just what it was, as much as she wracks her brain that memory is lost. Sometimes when she packs up her food she hopes that she’s somehow replicated that last lunch, and when she eats it the knowledge will come back in a flash. (She hopes this for a lot of details, since I put her losing her parents fairly young– her father’s favorite song, whether her mother knitted or crocheted, all the things that slipped through her 7/8/whatever year-old mind’s grasp)

She doesn’t even tell Usagi her parents are gone tho. I imagine she’s so used to the assumption they’re alive (getting in trouble for the first time in a new school always gets a “I have to call your parents) that she just skips it. And besides, she might be really making a friend, better not scare her off by being too sad or feeling too much.

WAY MORE SUAVE THAN TUXEDO MASK’S FIRST EXIT JUST LOOK AT HER

MAKO IS THE TRUE MYSTERIOUS SOLDIER OF JUSTICE

SWOOPS IN, SAVES YOUR GIRL, MOVES ON

I WANT TO KNOW ABOUT ALL THE GIRLS WHO FELL IN LOVE WITH THEIR ROSE-EARRINGED SAVIOUR THEY NEVER SAW AGAIN

BECAUSE LET’S BE REAL MAKO DOES THIS ALL THE TIME SHE’S NOT CAPABLE OF TURNING AWAY FROM ANYONE WHO NEEDS HELP

AND I”M PRETTY SURE USAGI’S REACTION IS THE ONLY REACTION TO HAVE

WHEN SAILOR JUPITER STARTS APPEARING EVERYONE ASSUMES SHE’S BEEN AROUND MUCH LONGER THAN SHE HAS

BECAUSE OH YEAH I WAS SAVED BY HER ONCE. I WAS OUT TOO LATE AND SHE HELPED ME HOME. I WAS CORNED BY A SCARY DUDE. I WAS BEING PICKED ON AFTER SCHOOL. IT’S A VERY LONG LIST. THERE’S A MASS OF QUIET GOOD WILL TOWARDS SAILOR JUPITER.

LATER WHEN MINAKO’S ON THE SCENE SHE INSISTS THEY HAVE P.O. BOXES FOR FAN MAIL (of course we’ll get fanmail, especially me) AND MAKO STARTS GETTING LETTERS FROM GIRLS EVERYWHERE, THOSE SHE HELPED AND THOSE WHO’VE JUST HEARD ABOUT HER AND FEEL A LITTLE SAFER KNOWING SHE’S AROUND AND IT’S A VERY EMOTIONAL TIME

MAKO’S NOT HERE FOR YOUR CONDESCENDING BULLSHIT

I love that she doesn’t say a word here. She told them off for getting on Usagi, and I think there she was hoping (even though she knows better) that talking could be enough, but the SECOND someone tries to lay a hand on her, it’s throw down time. She doesn’t NEED to argue with words here. Her actions are going to do the talking, and they are loud and clear.

Headcannon: Makoto is amazingly light on her feet. It’s part of what makes things like dancing come so easily to her.

When Minako first notices, she assumes it’s a habit based in sports or fighting tactics. That’s why she’s light footed, after all.

But really, it’s something Makoto learned to try and negate her size. She’s always been too tall for her age, “too big,” so she learned to sound small, especially after her parents died and she was shuffled among guardians who didn’t really want her. No stomping, no shouting, no big laughter. She learned to step so quietly that they had to see her to know she was there.
