HARUKA 11

What is their favorite ride at Disneyland? Favorite food?

Okay, I have to preface all of this by saying that it’s been over ten years since I’ve been to a Disney park, and my memory is a little ehhh. BUT I was at Universal last year (I’d gotten a day pass as a gift) so I’m just gonna figure all amusement parks are similar, although that’s completely not true.

So, for rides, I think Haruka has two sorts of favorites. She’s ABSOLUTELY into roller coasters, they’re fast and fun and the wind is in her hair and that all makes Haruka ECSTATIC. I’m going to say Space Mountain, because I know that exists.

But I think she also loves the kiddie rides for a whole host of reasons. I don’t think she’d have gotten to go to Disney as a child, so there’s that. Then I think, too, if she ever went with just Michiru she’d love that they’re relaxed. Sitting together in a spinning tea cup feels a lot more connected than dragging Michiru onto roller coaster after roller coaster. Haruka would, of course, try to have THE FASTEST spinning tea cup, and Michiru would laugh, and that’s all Haruka really needs from their vacation.

And once they have kids, Haruka’s favorite becomes whatever makes her babies smile the most. Especially any ride that does that and then sells overpriced pictures of them on the ride. Haruka buys every one, no matter what sort of faces she and Michiru are making. She has a whole book of these photos at home, and it’s absolutely one of her most treasured possessions.

I’ve also just remembered the car one, where you get to drive on a track, and I have no idea what it’s called but that is ALSO her favorite, especially once the kids are old enough to do it on their own. She gets really emotional about her kids racing.

And food, I have to base this entirely on what I can see on the website, but I think Haruka would love stuff like Cinderella’s Royal Table or the Be Our Guest restaurant. Look, Michi, there’s french stuff! It’s fancy just like you like! Michiru and their daughters ABSOLUTELY deserve to be treated like princesses.

But if she were there with Mina (which should absolutely happen) they’d definitely just hit the quick and (relatively but not really) cheap counter service places, quick burgers and sodas so they can get back to fun sooner.

And this isn’t part of the question, but I feel it’s important to think about how Haruka reacts when one of her kids is chosen to dance in the parade. How many pictures does she take? (As many as her camera can hold.) Does she cry? (Of course not! Okay maybe a little but her baby is just SO HAPPY dancing with the white rabbit look Michiru has there ever been anything cuter?)

Michiru, Haruka, Minako, Rei, Mako, Pluto

  • Push off a cliff: Haruka, because Michiru will save her
  • Kiss: I feel like kissing Mina would be an EXPERIENCE. (An experience everyone should have, if you ask her)
  • Marry: Mako.
  • Set on Fire: I’m being cheap and saying Rei. She’ll survive.
  • Wrap a Blanket around: MICHIRU. Not that she would let me but if she DID.
  • Be Roommates with: I originally had Haruka here but that would be THE WORST IDEA. One sappy butch eating too much ramen is ENOUGH for a household. Pluto would probably be an ACTUAL good roommate, as I think we’d both get quiet but be there when needed.

REPLY TIME (Angstober 18/24) (I should really title all these but ah well)

You two are the best 🙂 This is good, I love it. 🙂

Aw, thank you so much!! It’s been really fun seeing what Doc does and getting ideas from what she writes. I’m glad you enjoy it too!

Thank you! Haha Haruka desperately needs someone to talk sense into her.  I’ve debated writing Michiru finding out Haruka kept this to herself because I think that would be really rich ground, but I’m equally drawn to Mina lying to Michiru to make sure Haruka is only remembered fondly, so I probably won’t write either 😛

dreamshapers-universe said: Oh no this is so sad and I read it at work so I can’t cry! *bravely holds back tears* (someone should do a statistic about how often poor Haruka died during all of Angstober or at least got badly hurt / terribly ill XD)

CAN ANGSTOBER BEAT DOC’S 84 TIMES RECORD? (No it can’t.) Also you’re a much braver soul than I am, reading this at work. I see Angstober stuff when I’m not at home and I’m just like, NOPE.

docholligay said: For some reason this broke my heart a million times more than literally any entry in this, holy shit.

The whole scene with her running with Himeka on her shoulders is just, my god.

Ahhhhh I’m glad!! I had a hard time with this, in part because I figured it was the only time we’ll see Haruka’s side in this  thing. I didn’t feel anything from it until I read it over, so I’m really happy I managed to capture something. She just has so much to lose.

docholligay said: Also your haruka in the kitchen didn’t come off as wrong to me at all—I think of her as a capable enough cook, but certainly not a MASTERCHEF, and it’s VERY hard to make a symmetrical pizza, as someone who makes pizza on the reg.

Thank you! I worry about Haruka coming off as like, a bumbling sitcom husband, incapable of all things domestic. So I’m glad that it wasn’t the case here.

Playing catch up on replies under the cut!

docholligay replied to your post: hahaha I’m in a MOOD and drew somethin…

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS I’M SO PROUD

Thanks! I think you and I have a lot of the same feelings about drawing, so I was like, if Doc drew this I would want her to post it. So I posted it. And I’m still like EVERYTHING IS WRONG MICHIRU’S LIMBS ARE ALL SO BAD but. it’s up. (And I even refrained from making the “failure refers not only to the subject matter but also my execution of it” joke)

Thank you! It’s such a heartbreaking prompt. And lol, I feel like I’m always so hard on Michiru and Haruka’s parents, but OH WELL.

docholligay said: Ah, the phrase about composition is so lovely, and how Michiru used to tell her all kinds of art things, but couldn’t tell her anything now, what a lovely contrast. And then holding her horribly broken hand, what a lovely thought

Ahhh I’m glad you liked that! I’m drawn a lot to the idea that Michiru would actually genuinely want to teach Haruka a little about music and art, less in a condescending or even an enthusiastic way, just more like, there’s beauty in two things that aren’t Haruka and Haruka should get to experience that as fully as she can.

docholligay said: I love that this is Haruka’s fault, that she has to live with knowing Michiru died because of her, and has to carry that weight. And “they were right about me” oh fuck you

AHAHA it’s so horrible. Haruka wants to be angry and the Kaiohs, at anyone, really, but she can only really be mad at herself. And it’s not her fault, but it is, and ahaha poor bb.

docholligay said: And Oh, oh Haruka waking up and finding Michiru gone, so sad, so lovely. This was great

thank yooooooou

docholligay replied to your post: Well. Okay. Final thoughts for the nig…

AGreed, the writing was weak in this one, too much packed in, it felt light in harumichi content…I mean basically you’re watching them in the background, I wanted them talking together and BEING together

Yeah. And I’d forgive it being light on HaruMichi if it was heavy on the Inners since they’re graduating… but it wasn’t even that? I feel like there wasn’t anything it *really* focused on. (I’d almost say Chibs and Hotaru, but it pulled back from that even).

I’d sell my soul to trade the HaruSagi shit for one solid HaruMichi scene.

Or even just the inners having more solid moments to be honest. I’m mad because PE did SO GOOD fitting character moments into a fairly tight plot. This felt so jumbled.
