  • Why they are the best
    SHE IS SUCH AN ASSHOLE. She absolutely pushes people’s buttons for fun (not just Haruka, she does it with Usagi, she tried with Michiru, and I’d bet she’d do it with everyone, we just never got it on screen), BUT SHE MEANS IT GOOD NATUREDLY. And she’s a smol little butch,  charming as HELL even though she flounders sometimes. ALSO LET ME SCREAM HER LYRICS IN “I MISS YOU” BECAUSE SHE HAS SUCH AN EXPERIENCE OF UNREQUITED LOVE AND IT HURTS ME.
  • Why they are the worst
    SHE IS SUCH AN ASSHOLE
  • a canon fact (that shouldn’t be)
    Canon likes to waver on her knowing where boundaries are. SHE KNOWS AND ADHERES TO THAT PLEASE. 
  • a non-canon fact (that should be)
    She and Minako acknowledge some of what they have in common at LEAST once. I think Seiya is more genuine in her jovial moods than Mina (I mean, Mina is genuine, but there’s always that little bit of everything else running underneath, she can never not be Venus even when she wants so badly to just be Mina), but they’re similar, they’re the leaders, they’ve both failed their princess at least once, they both have memories of fallen kingdoms. They might do it half jokingly, but they definitely do it. (And likely, it makes them hate each other a little, since they hate these things in themselves. Mina is happy to cheer Haruka on in their next fight)
  • a piece of advice I would give them
    don’t beat yourself up about Kakyuu. PLEASE

    SHE SUCH A PURE AND BEAUTIFUL PUFFIN?? SHE WANTS SO BAD TO BE GOOD AND NOBLE AND WILL NEVER EVER BELIEVE SHE’S THERE. And she loves?? so much?? She loves Michiru so much. (And LOVE IS EVERYTHING) (Did I mention she is a NERD???)

    THERE ARE SO MANY. Okay I’m gonna go with Michiru being her first kiss, because I just. REALLY LIKE THAT. (She’s not Michiru’s tho)

I also like that her presentation in no way changes after the reveal. With the exception of fuck-ass 96, the reaction is basically “welp, that’s Haruka, that’s what she dresses like.” *shrug*

YES. Like, people’s presentation can change, okay, but a change centering around the knowledge that she’s really a woman is a little… icky. THAT EVERYONE ACCEPTS IT FOR THE MOST PART IS REALLY IMPORTANT

I love the anime more than life itself, but the Starlights thing is so gross, and it REALLLYYYYY bothers me that they changed it from them being women in the manga because they didn’t want Usagi to have a female love interest

yeaaah there is SO MUCH I hate about how they handled the Starlights? So much shit got put on them, homophobia and transphobia AND ALSO JUST LOTS OF STRAIGHT UP BAD WRITING. I’m never really sure how I came to love Seiya through al that trash, but I’m glad I did because that’s what led me to the musicals WHERE THINGS ARE HANDLED BETTER FOR THEM.

I loved this moment for Michiru’s sass and obvious delightment and Haruka’s genuine confusion, I’m not sure about the trope itself but the moment was played really good and non-offensive!

SASSMASTER MICHIRU IS MY FAV. And yeah, I love the moment for the same reasons!

I love it because it’s obvious Haruka wasn’t trying to ‘trick’ them or anything. She even says, with genuine confusion, that she never said she was a guy. I think it could be (and is in other canons) really gross, but the anime took a p light touch

I thought it was really well done, because it wasn’t actually a reveal. It was just Haruka trolling people with their own expectations and Michiru SLIGHTLY helping her along. Which is just real and hilarious at the same time.

Yeah, I think for me a big part of it is Haruka is (mostly) in control of the whole thing? Not their expectations of course (and not Michiru),  but things do happen on her terms. It’s not like with the Starlights, where the reveal that they’re women is forced by the reveal that they’re senshi and they’re never really given a say in it (plus you know. gross things got said in those eps). But Haruka’s clear on what she is and she makes it clear how she wants to be seen. Idk, I hate talking about fictional characters and ~agency~, but she gets her say, you know? And it’s not a trick, it’s just “wow you thought…?”

personal headcanon: sometimes, Haruka and Michiru feel like it’s Setsuna and Hotaru who are raising them.

Ahahaha DEFINITELY.

I personally see Haruka and Michiru as doing the most strictly “parental” stuff, I think they fall into those roles easily, but Sets and Hotaru are such old souls. Haruka and Michiru definitely learn more than they teach.

I’M GLAD BECAUSE IT’LL PROBABLY START WORKING ITS WAY INTO MY WRITING. This relationship hasn’t really clicked for me before, like it’s been a thing but I haven’t felt much about it. Thinking about the age difference actually being a factor suddenly makes it rich and interesting to me? Idk.

MAYBE ONE WHERE HARUKA DECIDES NOT TO GO TALK TO MICHIRU SO SHE DOESN’T THINK SHE CAME JUST TO SEE HER

I can see it, Michiru gets a job to prove she can survive without her parent’s money or the talents they cultivated in her.

Haruka is there to read car magazines, and also maybe a LITTLE in hopes of talking to Michiru, BUT SHE CAN’T APPROACH HER GOSH. But maybe she’ll just… look at books in the section Michiru is working in. IF MICHIRU WANTS TO ASK IF SHE NEEDS HELP SHE WON’T MIND.

But most importantly, Michiru interacting with customers.
