  • Why they are the best
    BECAUSE SHE’S GENERAL LEIA ORGANA, PRINCESS OF ALDERAAN, FORCE SENSITIVE AND READY TO KICK YOUR ASS.  
  • Why they are the worst
    I can never ever ever trust canon to give her her dues.

    THE GOLD BIKINI. THE FACT THAT SHE WAS PUT IN IT. HOW ABOUT WE DON’T. AND HOW ABOUT WE ESPECIALLY DON’T MAKE MERCHANDISE OF IT. (like, okay there are less uncomfortable outfits they could have put her in that would serve a similar NARRATIVE purpose without all the gross shit)
  • a non-canon fact (that should be)
    SHE’S GOT A LIGHTSABER AND DEFINITELY USES IT. She never fully trained as a Jedi, but she learned some things.

    don’t tell han to bring ben back please

WELL THEN WE BETTER TAKE CARE OF THEM NOW

Usagi

  • Why they are the best
    She BELIEVES. She chooses optimism and love. And she’s so flawed, she’s selfish and lazy and insecure, and boy do I relate to her insecurities. She knows her people love her, but she can’t help but doubt, there is always a part of her that’s sure they’re all going to leave her.
  • Why they are the worst
    The narrative absolutely never interrogates her optimism enough, optimism is HARD and having it always be right and never fully exploring her times of doubt is a little frustrating. 
  • a canon fact (that shouldn’t be)
    Uhhhm Usagi being particularly concerned with gender/sexuality? I mean the girl would take a long time to actually put a label on herself, because she absolutely has been hit hard with heteronormativity and she’s not one to sit down and think about things, but she’s been very blatantly falling for EVERYONE from the beginning and she’s love and acceptance and just, nah I reject that.
  • a non-canon fact (that should be)
    chubby Usagi or bust
  • a piece of advice I would give them
    Let people know when you’re lonely. It’s hard but it’ll help.

Hotaru

  • Why they are the best
    THE OTHER PAINFUL CHILD. Honestly when I think of Hotaru, I think of her strength. There’s a war over her body, and she chooses the victor. (And there’s a moment in the original SuperS myu, where she demands to be herself and NOT Saturn and NOT a demon, and it gives me all the feelings.) But she’s also a tragedy, because from the moment her father makes his deal with Pharoh 90, she loses all chance of ever just being Hotaru. She can fight for Saturn to win control, but she can’t ever claim herself fully, not for long. 
  • Why they are the worst
    The narrative never follows through on all the implications of her story and character
  • a canon fact (that shouldn’t be)
    DOC HAS CONVERTED ME ON ANTI-HAPPY OUTERS FAMILY but really, I think HOF is kind of a sinister conclusion for Hotaru, just because they’re all senshi. It’s another way she’s taken away from being Hotaru. AND THAT’S IGNORING ALL THE MURDER/ATTEMPTED MURDER.
  • a non-canon fact (that should be) 
    I WOULD GIVE ANYTHING FOR HOTARU REJECTING (or trying to reject) ALL THAT SATURN IS AND ALL THAT THE SENSHI ARE
  • a piece of advice I would give them
    You can still be you in all this, there are pieces that are untouched. Maybe talk to Minako, Venus took everything from her, too.

I think the hard truth is that the villains actresses are zuka og, and they are the seniors of harumichi’s actresses, which explains why there were so many villains songs with a focus on kaolinite(she’s the most senior if we count tani out). I think this is the same reason why there was a twist in PE because saphir was demande’s senior in zuka so they have to balance their scenes out and give saphir more of a focus. It’s not really so fair, but hierarchy plays a big part in Japan….

Thanks for the info, anon, it’s good to have. 

But I do still feel like they should have done *more* with the villains, if they had reasons for them to be on stage. The Kaolinite/Michiru/Rei parallel was GREAT, but it was the only new and interesting thing with the villains. The rest felt very basic. Which is sad, because there’s a lot that could be done with those characters! You mentioned the Saphir and Demande thing, and if this was behind that it’s a great example of making something great out of this hierarchy. If Kaolinite needed a certain amount of stage time, maybe the human and daimon parts of her could have been in conflict (which would mirror Hotaru in a really interesting way). Or if they could have included her step-mother type relationship to Hotaru, or have her be in love with the Professor (I wouldn’t normally be cool with that, but lol everyone should be in love with this Tomoe).

And speaking of Tomoe, I would have loved if the two seconds he and Tux talked about fatherhood and twisted love had been expanded into a song in place of one of his earlier songs (probably Chosen One that one struck me as kind of out of place). Like, I don’t usually advocate for more Tux time, but that was such rich ground to touch on! They’re two fathers who have faced losing their daughters and gone to great lengths to save them. Give me THAT.

  • 5 favorite characters Makoto, Haruka, Usagi, Seiya, Minako (trying not to think on that too much, if I think it’ll never be five)
  • 3 OTPs Haruka/Michiru, Makoto/Ami, Minako/Ami
  • Funniest character Minako (or Myu-verse First Stage Starlights, but that feels like cheating)
  • Prettiest character MAKOTO 
  • Most bad-ass character You know I’m going to have to go for a tie between Hotaru, Michiru, Minako and Usagi. I’m indecisive and they’re all such different types of badass
  • Character I’d like as my BFF ALL OF THEM. But I think Usagi, Makoto, and Rei are the sorts I long for the most in friends.
  • Character that’s ruined my life PLUTO. I feel really bad that she’s not listed in my favorites there, but damn she’s who gets to me the most

Basically you are super cute and perfect and the best. I hope you have a FANTASTIC 2015.
