After yesterday’s ridiculously long post about the outers in PGSM,
I’ve been thinking about transformation sequences, because WHY NOT.
Each
of the Talisman holders start their transformation with a shot of their
hand grabbing their talisman (we of course get the obligatory Gotta
Sell Nailpolish shot) and the glove forming about that hand as they
grip.
Pluto gets an extra little lead in of the Time Doors opening
to reveal the Garnet Rod. Throughout her sequence there’s a motif of
keys, chains, and clocks, the way Rei’s has flower petals and Mina’s has
ribbons and dancing girls. One of the chains bears keys circles down
her body to bring on her fuku, and part of it remains at her hip to give
her access to her time keys. She takes one off that grows to become her
staff, which she pulls the Garnet Rod onto. As it clicks into place,
her hair changes and she is complete.
Neptune’s plays a lot
with the mirror. She waves it over her body to reveal her fuku, we look
into it and see a shot of the sea fade into her wavy green hair, which
then the real Neptune has. Despite that, the impression of the
transformation is not frivolity or vanity. After her hair changes, she
looks from the mirror to the viewer with intensity, as though she may
attack at any moment, and her tiara forms. She stays facing the viewer
for her end pose, composed but ready to lash out.
Uranus’s
transformation is bright and fun and cocky. She takes her sword and
slashes at the screen to reveal her fuku. She slices at her own hair to
turn it blonde. She’s aggressive, but kind of goofy at the same time. At
some point she winks at the camera while spinning her sword on one
finger. It ends with her standing proud and eager.
