I’ve always like the idea of Chaos being more like that little whisper in the back of her head, not brainwashing, so much as pointing out what she’s already thinking: if people don’t listen to you, you should make them listen to you. You know best, why should you listen to anyone else. Etc, etc. Things she’s already thinking but won’t admit to, nudged and pointed out. Chaos isn’t bringing anything out that isn’t already there, it’s just making sure she can’t deny it anymore.

I LOVE THIS TAKE. She could still choose to ignore it, but she doesn’t want to. I want this for all the brainwashing plots (except honestly the Mamoru ones, because I think rather than it being a way to dodge his responsibility, it’s a way to show whatever bad guy taking him away from Usagi, and while it’s a bit overused, it doesn’t feel cheap to me).

🔥Haruka Tenou

I have thoroughly insulated myself from most opinions of Haruka that aren’t my opinions or opinions of people I like but from what still comes through sometimes:

Haruka Tennoh is NOT a heartthrob. She’s handsome enough, sure, but she’s awkward and I think way more people would call her cute than sexy on a first impression. Her charm is mostly effective when she’s certain flirting won’t go anywhere, she can fake confidence when it doesn’t matter, but when push comes to shove she is the LEAST SUAVE. She is all big gestures and no cool. I love thinking about AU’s where she dates around before meeting Michiru, because she’d be such a mess about it, falling after one date and then being devastated when it doesn’t work, not at all the lady killer I sometimes still see her positioned as

🔥anything tumblr

tumblr’s current trend of HAHAH LESBIANS ARE SO DUMB is really aggravating to me. The oblivious stuff is very real, but it’s caught on in a weird way, and I’ve also seen a lot of posts about how lesbians will let a pretty girl do anything, lesbians go all Neanderthal over titties, etc. It’s a new face of infantilizing us. Before it was the desexualized ~holding hands having picnics uwu~ and now it’s that we’re sexual, but also helpless dumb lumps. I am PROBABLY over reacting, but I’m a grump and idk, I’d like lesbians to be seen as fully formed people.

🔥🔥🔥Galaxiaaaa

Galaxia is most interesting as someone who started down her path to do good, to prove herself, to be the savior, but then as things started to go wrong she found the wrong so much more satisfying. Cruelty tastes so good on her tongue, others’ pain is so delicious in a way that their gratitude never was. She could never be the most good, the most pure, but she can still be the greatest, she can cause harm so vast that her name will live on for centuries, whispered in fear even in the furthest corners of the universe.

Having her ~controlled by chaos~ is a cop out. If she has to take it into herself, let her realize she can work with it, that she can use it. It is her tool, rather than the other way around.

🔥Marriage

Marriage can both not be the be-all end of of gay/LGBT rights AND still be incredibly important. It’s not really about love being equal, but having an equal access to benefits, both legal and social, and it’s NOT heteronormative to engage with those benefits, including through taking the same last name.

🔥 Sailor Moon

While S is probably the best season for character writing and stuff, it and all versions of the arc make very little sense. I think part of it is it features pretty much the only bad guy without any personal connection to Usagi/Serenity.  And then in the anime, it doesn’t make sense that Saturn awakens and then only destroys the bad guy instead of the world, but in versions where she does destroy the world, it’s so dramatically unsatisfying that Usagi can just undo it. AND WHY DO THE TALISMANS WORK LIKE THEY DO? WHY DO THEY EXIST?

All versions and all seasons have problems, but I think S is the hardest to parse out and smooth over the plot holes, even though it’s always held up as the pinnacle of Sailor Moon writing
