Holy shit I forgot that when Usagi erased Minako’s memory, she erased Artemis from her mind, too.
He stays with Luna and Minako doesn’t remember what the fuck WHAT THE FUCK
“Minako and the other Guardians are finally leading peaceful lives. I don’t want to spoil all of that for them by bringing them back.”
For fuck’s sake, Artemis would rather live a life where Minako doesn’t remember him because she’s finally normal (what he knows she always wanted) than bring back her memories of him and make her fight I AM A MESS.
Michiru is the head of a high crime empire. Her personal interest is art theft, both for the thrill and because the masses do no deserve what only a true artist can appreciate.
Usagi is her secretary who is utterly clueless the business she works for is a front. Michiru has stopped expecting her to figure it out and counts it as a brilliant stroke of luck.
Ami was recruited after she was expelled from the medical community for extensive insurance fraud. While she can sometimes tend towards righteous, her hacking skills are invaluable to Michiru’s operation.
Michiru’s current recruitment target is Minako— a brilliant con artist it’s taken months to track.
What Michiru doesn’t know is Mina has no interest in crime that benefits the wealthy. She’s running a small Robin-Hood style operation (sometimes, she is the poor they are helping, but a girl’s gotta eat) with two bleeding hearts, ex-Yakuza Makoto and petty thief/street racer Haruka (the latter of whom she may have met while they were both running from the cops, Haruka had luckily been willing to take a passenger and had modified her car well enough that the police couldn’t catch them)
Meanwhile Rei is a fresh investigative journalist determined to make her name by blowing open Michiru’s operation, and she’s willing to cut a deal with the likes of Mina to do it
Speaking of the girls destroying people’s lives when defending each other, how the fuck has Senator Hino’s entire life not been wrecked by scandal because Minako started a twitter smear campaign LIKE WE ALL KNOW SHE WOULD
OKAY BUT WHAT IF she doesn’t even bother with a smear campaign. She just tails him one day, pickpockets his phone and guesses the code (she doesn’t let herself feel anything about it being Rei’s mom’s name), tweets out something that both looks like an accidentally posted DM and is vaguely incriminating, returns it, and lets the rest happen as it may
She’d laughed, then, shrugging it off as easily as a coat on a warm spring day. They didn’t look much alike, not to her. No, Haruka was muted where she was bright, her hair tempered to ash by the shadows of her life, her eyes gone grey with the storms in them, while Mina’s hair and eyes shone bright in the sunlight, and sparkled with the bubbly quality of her own heart, the champagne that never went flat.
It seemed distant, now, the way the colors in an oil painting could be bright and oh so far away, that day on the patio of some small bistro Mina had wanted to hate because Michiru had recommended it, and yet the blooms of the garden surrounding it perfumed the air, and the food was unfussily delicious, and Haruka leaned back in her chair easily as the waiter accused them, teasing Mina that she was so quick to deny her, so quick to make sure everyone knew they didn’t share anything but fries.
I’d let them call you anything they wanted, Ruka, she thought, staring at the gold glinting off the one earring in her left ear.
“Right is the gay ear, bud, are you trying to say–”
“No, right means you like guys!” She’d protested so highly, her nose wrinkling in a way that made her seem young, made her seem like she’d had a childhood, “But left means you like girls! Left is–”
“Left is for lesbian.” She said to no one in particular, and touched the choker at her neck. She shouldn’t have it. She shouldn’t be able to. It should have disappeared with the rest of Haruka’s uniform, when she’d given that last final sigh.
But Mina was leader, wasn’t she? Mina could bend the rules, just a little, and she’d taken it off, and held it in her hand, and though fate and destiny and all those words that were a swear in her mouth could take Haruka, she would hold this.
Her own choker never appeared again, when the warm wind of orange and yellow and love came over her. It was always Haruka’s.
Haruka’s. Not Uranus’. If it were Uranus’, it would have disappeared.
It was important to Mina, to note the difference.
The glass caught the glint of her hair, drifting in the wind, as her army formed behind her, her eyes searching into the reflection. Ash with the shadow of the day. Her eyes grey with the coming storm.
applying to jobs in nyc:send out fifty applications, hear back from one (1) in an automated rejection email. there are subway rats with better qualifications than you.
applying to jobs in a smaller city: send out a handful of applications, maybe you’ll hear from– oh god. they are calling you. you have three interviews. you still have to call half of them back. two emails just came in from companies that saw your resume online. you have impressive experience. you are overwhelmed with Choice.
Another senshi job thought: Usagi has spent her whole life dreaming about being a housewife, but she didn’t count on how lonely it would be pre-kids, and everyone else is busy during the day so she can’t even go bother Rei or anyone to feel better. It’s not long before she’s picked up a job at an ice-cream parlor just to talk to people
-slams down your wall- Yes! Good. I live for this kind of shit. Minako never reaching that far off dream, always clawing towards it but never ever getting closer.
YES
And it hurts her all the more because it’s not because she isn’t good. She is. She SHINES on the local scene, people tell her pretty often that she should do bigger and better things.
But the bigger and better things never come. No matter how hard she tries, what connections she builds, how many auditions she sends in, nothing ever comes her way.
She is good, she is great, and it doesn’t matter. She only ever has what she can build herself.
