I’m going to elaborate on my own LESBIANS MEETING THE PARENTS tags because SERIOUSLY THERE ARE SO MANY WAYS TO PLAY IT

• Gendered expectations get WONKY, I mean, standard romcom family pressure is on the guy, but there is no guy
• EVERYONE WANTS THEIR DAUGHTERS TREATED RIGHT. BUT WHAT? BOTH PARTIES ARE SOMEONE’S DAUGHTER? SHOCKING.
• Protectiveness can get skewed around a bit, especially if the one they’re protecting THEIR PRECIOUS DAUGHTER against is feminine
• throw me a bone and have a butch with a protective sister, THE USUAL HURT HER I HURT YOU SHTICK BUT WITH MORE INTERESTING PLAYERS
• REALLY ANY PRESENTATION COMBINATION HAS ITS OWN EXPECTATIONS AND WAYS TO PLAY WITH THEM THAT VARY SO MUCH DEPENDING ON THE PEOPLE
• I mean I’ve not been anywhere near meet-the-family stage but I say I like a girl with short hair my mom and sister lament that we’d look too much alike, and the more feminine a girl is, generally the better their response; families have weird quirks like that that are kiiiiind of shitty but ultimately just mildly annoying background noise, depending on how ~dramatic~ you want to get you could ramp it up (femme invisibility vs. butch ““manliness”“ vs. how weird people can get with wlw who fall between/outside of those presentation categories)
• there’s also just the fact that every family handles their gay kids differently, and even with two ladies with accepting families, there are going to be adjustments and accidental missteps
• also I mean if we want a ~special gay moment~ one lady stands up for the other for something shitty the other’s family has been doing, I think this is a bit of a trend but it is a trend I LOVE, I cry every time
• THE PREP. One so nervous, looking her best and trying SO HARD. Practicing her greeting in the mirror because she REALLY LOVES her girlfriend and wants to do this right
• (I’m imagining a butch there. Ironing her clothes and debating the merit of wearing a blazer, making sure to have flowers and chocolates for the parents and siblings and even getting a nice little plush toy for her gf’s niece/nephew, still worrying it’s all not enough)
• (BUT ANYONE WORKS. Especially since so many wlw have so many worries about how people perceive them)
• AND THERE IS ALSO JUST THE NORMAL MEETING THE FAMILY SHENANIGANS, SOMEONE BREAKS AN HEIRLOOM, SOMEONE DOESN’T GET ALONG WITH SOMEONE ELSE FOR REASONS THAT MAY OR MAY NOT BE RESOLVED. THERE IS LOTS OF LOVE AND KISSES AND CUDDLING BETWEEN THE COUPLE
