25: What brings them the most unmitigated joy in all the world?
Honestly, this was a bit of a toughie, but I think I’m going to go with receiving validation. Chibs shares a name and a birthday with her mother, the Queen of Crystal Tokyo and the most powerful warrior in the Solar System (and possibly the galaxy, if Galaxia isn’t around). That’s a lot to live up to, and Chibs definitely feels that she might not be able to. Hell, some people tell her that she’s a fake princess, that she’s unable to use her mother’s crystal and therefore that makes her inferior.
However, when people praise Chibs and acknowledge her for something SHE did, she feels immense joy. Finally, people are recognizing that she can do good things as well! She has friends that love her for HER, not for who her mother is! That alone is probably enough to bring her such joy.
THANK YOU
I absolutely agree with you about validation. I think it won’t be easy for Chibs to not only get desired acknowledgement from the others, but also to breed this feeling of worthyness in herself. She may never admit it and would yell at anyone who dares to doubt how awesome she is, but deep inside all she can see is weaknesses and failures, and no hope to improve it because however hard she tries she ends up either a complete mess, or more or less okay but still not as bright as her mother. She will try though, doing all sorts of crasy things, but she’d always feel that it’s not enough. I headcanon Chibs as EXTREMELY complicated and troublesome person, no matter child or adult, and immortal deity of death and rebirth is quite literally the only person that can stand her for a significant amount of time and willingly agree to rest by her side (Chibs’ parents and Pluto don’t count).
As I believe it, in some way Chibiusa will never step higher than her mother, but she can step higher than herself. What she should inderstand is that she doesn’t need to be better or stronger or more valuable than Usagi. She may be a hundred times weaker or less significant, she may never do anything half as important as her mother’s deeds (the bar is set high with all Usagi’s world saving stuff) – but Chibs needs to finaly get that it’s ALL RIGHT. She is enough. The day she wakes up and realises that she doesn’t want to challenge anymore will be the day of her real victory.
(That’s why I think Chibs will either make a badass leader at some point or dismiss and establish some kind of election system in Crystal Tokyo – she will undoubtedly make a bunch of awful mistakes on her way, but she will start early and learn fast, so the odds will be good for her).
