my interpretation was that she started picking up on it during the dance and was trying to protect chibi by dancing with her and distract them by dancing solo then. because she’s a fucking boss. prepare your body for incoming kickass fight scene!!

Oh, yeah, I definitely think that too, especially since she sort of shuffles Chibiusa away partway through. I love it so much because we rarely get to see Makoto be the one to come up with a strategy like that, but it makes perfect sense here. 
This musical is a gift and I’m never getting over it.
