Lavender Brown: professor, prophet, veteran

The first few years after the war were the hardest for everyone really, but especially for Lavender. Adjusting to peace after years of uneasiness, and finding a way to mourn loved ones lost in the war was hard enough for anyone, never mind an 18 year old girl who’s suddenly forced to deal with all the pain and confusion of becoming a werewolf in the aftermath of a vicious attack by Fenrir Greyback during the Battle of Hogwarts. For a while, it feels like the girl who was once the most bubbly person around has nothing in particular to be positive about anymore.

But time passes, wounds fade to scars, and life moves on, in spite of everything. After a while, Lavender picks up on one big thing: preparation. She’s always been fascinated by divination, but finally realizing the importance of being able to know what the future holds helps her get a grip on her transformations, allowing her some happiness and control over her life once again. Her cheerful disposition returns, but with a little more thoughtfulness thrown in than she’d been known to have as a kid.

So when she gets a letter from Hogwarts informing her of a vacant position for a divinations professor, Lavender jumps at the chance. Sure she needs a job, but it’s more than that. After having seen the atrocities of war and violent hate firsthand, she knows just how important it is to teach the next generation to be ready for whatever the future holds, and to create a brighter future for themselves if they don’t like what they see.
