During the summers I work at the same store as my mom. She is currently without internet, so when I went in today I asked if she had heard the Zimmerman was found not guilty. The other lady working with us overheard and butted in with a “Good!” I stared at her and she said something about Trayvon not being as innocent as he seemed.
I thought that would be the worst thing I heard during my shift, since I do stock and don’t have a lot of customer interaction, but later my mom took me aside and told me that despite her politics, this lady was a really nice person and I shouldn’t judge her.
And it just really hit me that this is part of why white people are so vile. We think that racism is an issue of politics and that we can endorse the murder of children and still be nice people.
